Even the Prague editorial team of Forbes magazine has taken notice of how Brno and South Moravia are shining on the map of top destinations for conferences, trade fairs, and teambuilding events.
“There are dozens of jokes about the rivalry between the Czech Republic’s two largest cities. But when it comes to the conference business, Brno might soon have the last laugh,” they write in the article Wine, Congress, Song! Five Reasons to Host Corporate Events in Brno and Its Surroundings.
What are those reasons according to Forbes?
- Wine
“In wine, there is not only truth but also beauty. That’s why design gems are flourishing in the region. Wineries like Lahofer, Sonberk, and Thaya have long been visited not just for their vines but also for their architecture.”
“At the same time, as vineyard visits grow in popularity, so do opportunities to enjoy nature through eco-tourism. Some of the region’s top highlights include the tea and herb company Sonnentor with its new building in Čejkovice, as well as Bukovanský mlýn, Trkmanka, Hájenka pod větrníky, Kocanda Kravsko, Mlýn Hrušky, and Statek Samsara.”
2. Authentic Brno
What gives South Moravia’s capital its unique charm? “It’s the distinctive atmosphere of Brno. Even though it has 400,000 residents, everything in the city center is within walking distance. It’s still local and authentic,” Eliška Křížová tells Forbes.
“Villa Tugendhat is just the beginning, not the end. Brno is a student city as well as a Czech IT hub, home to AVG and the former Avast (now Gen). It’s also where tech companies like Y Soft, Kentico, and Webnode were born, and it’s increasingly attractive to international businesses.”
3. Exceptional Gastronomy
“If there’s one area where Brno has long played at least an equal game with Prague, it’s the network of restaurants, bistros, and cafés. Asia, Italy, Mexico—the whole world comes to you. You can enjoy a perfect breakfast menu with specialty coffee or head to Hlohovec to experience the mastery of Otto Vašák at Essens, one of the finest fine-dining establishments in the country.”
4. Luxury (Fit for a Castle)
“The fields of South Moravia sometimes soak up the sun in straight expanses, while elsewhere they ripple across the picturesque slopes of the so-called Moravian Tuscany. Just as diverse is the list of castles and chateau hotels that are an integral part of the region.”
5. Adrenaline and Unconventional Activities
“When it comes to unique experiences, Brno undoubtedly plays in the top league. The Denis nuclear bunker under Petrov offers a dark glimpse into the Cold War era, while in Hnanice near Znojmo, you can spend the night in a World War II bunker. Brno’s underground is already a classic, but what about a bar tour? Or an adventure at Villa Löw-Beer, where groups of up to eight work together to solve the mystery of a missing Brno textile magnate? In the Moravian Karst, you’ll find the only speleo-via ferrata in the Czech Republic—an adrenaline-filled challenge for those who don’t mind the dark and the gentle concert of dripping stalactites.”
